After working in the oil industry for several years I obtained my BSc(hons) in Mathematics and Physics as a mature student in 2008. For my PhD studies I focused on high resolution molecular spectroscopy in the Mid-Infrared using pulsed quantum cascade lasers (QCL), I was awarded my PhD in 2012. After completing my PhD, I spent 7 months as an instrumentation scientist at Cascade Technologies Ltd before becoming a research associate at CMP.

Since joining CMP in late 2013 my research interests have expanded to include high resolution spectroscopy in harsh environments using tunable diode laser techniques. This takes the form of measuring concentration and temperature of aero-engine exhaust gases, as part of the EPSRC funded FLITES and the Horizon 2020 CleanSky 2 projects, and ratio-thermometry measurements as part of flame diagnostics using both pulsed QCL’s and diode lasers, EPSRC funded CIDAR (platform grant). My interests also include the use of pyro-electric detectors in the production of low cost air monitoring systems in collaboration with Pyreos Ltd.
