Karla Paterson is a first year PhD student from the Electronic and Electrical Engineering department. She graduated with an MEng in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 2018 having had completed her Masters thesis at the University of Porto where she developed a novel 3D in vitro model for establishing intestinal drug permeability. Her PhD is focused on developing a microfluidic platform that can be automated and standardised for use in small and medium-sized enterprises and research and development laboratories for screening human tumour biopsies and developing in vitro immunotherapy assays.
